| Music is astonishing. Every week, seemingly talentless bums seem to masquerade behind guitars and faux attitude, scoring massive success that belies a complete lack of ability. It seems therefore shameful that so many incapable morons are able to wallow in the splendours of musical success (bath tubs full of Skittles and personalised toilet roll holders) at the expense of quality untapped resources such as Raising Sand.
It’s also worrying that such obvious craftsmanship could have somehow escaped me for such a long period of time, because after just one listen of “Riding the Blinds” it was clear that many more listens were soon to follow. So chart-lovers, turn off your Crazy Frog CD - nay, shoot yourself in the face for listening to the nonsense in the first place – and listen to some of the good stuff.
“Dogtown Blues” and “Witness to the Storm” are two of the best rock tracks that you’ll hear this year. Graham Bartram’s sublime guitarmanship and Vinny Foreman’s delicious vocals - not to mention harmonica playing – are the icing on a very tasty rhythmic cake indeed. “Dogtown...” in particular is turbo-charged rock splendour from beginning to end.
However, every second that you spend reading this review, is a second that you could have been listening to something truly special indeed. So get off your arse and get hold of a copy - you will like it. And if you don’t? It’s simple... you’re a dick. And a big one at that.
