| If ever there was a band that wished to have endless jokes made about them being boring, then Wet Paint are most definitely it. Fortunately for Wet Paint however, their sound is so eclectically bombarduous (it’s in the new Oxford English I promise you...), that to compare them with anything dull would probably require a deaf journalist with a chip on his shoulder. Wet Paint can barely sound the same for a whole song – let alone an entire demo!
Yet despite this, not everything Wet Paint have created is fantastic as an immediate effect. Whilst some of the tunes, such as “Magpie” – with Jason Perry-like vocals – are fantastic numbers, other tracks are so radically different that not only does the vocalist appear to become a totally different kettle of fish person (don’t type and smoke kids), but some songs are actually unlikable. “Wet Paint” – the song – is one such tune, which despite brilliant guitar interludes, including some great referencing work, just seems to lack the spark that inserts so much enjoyment into songs such as “Teenage Anger”.
Yet that said, all the elements are present for Wet Paint to progress well in the music industry – they have paint-bucket loads of talent and musical ability – they just need to focus their sound a little bit more to create a recognisable tune. There are many bands that can be eclectic and maintain their own sound (System of a Down, Meshuggah) and Wet Paint would do well to follow their lead. If they do, they’ll go far. Perhaps even paint the town red. Ahem...
