The Things You Never Say
Andy Thornton
EP [4 Tracks]

1. The Things You Never Say
2. One Less Holy
3. Shake The Moon Down
4. She Won’t Talk To Me

Yorkshire born Andy’s release is a melodic fuse of gentle heartfelt calmness and lively, pleasant jazzy pop. The 4 songs on his EP are very catchy and would definitely go down very well in your auntie’s house.

The opening track ‘The Things You Never Say’ has a Norah Jones piano style to it, with acoustic guitar strumming gently behind. The chorus accommodates a female backing vocalist who gives some life and range. I think the verses would have sounded great with her doing some harmonies or backing vocals on them too.

‘One Less Holy’ has a brass section creating a full on, uplifting escapade. This song has a good 80’s and 90’s sound to it - an almost Deacon Blue, Tears For Fears reincarnation.

You can hear the hard work that Andy has put into his EP, proving that catchy songs don’t have to be cheesy. The final track ‘She Won’t Talk To Me’ wins him some sympathy, but does make him out to be a bit of a stalker;

“I send her emails and flowers, but all I get is an empty screen. I send her voicemail each hour and take my phone everywhere with me. Everything I ever do reminds me I’m alone.”

..it’s a good job that he has music then.
