| Brett Anderson is back. There is no escaping his distinctive vocals. Having never been a fan of Suede (because of Brett's vocals) I was not keen to listen to this release. Luckily it is not as bad as I was expecting. The Tears also homes Brett's old companion Bernard Butler as well as 3 other members - Nathan Fisher, Makoto Sakamoto and Will Foster.
Lovers is a lively, upbeat happy summer time tune that has elements of The Brand New Radicals as well as Brett and Bernard's trademark musical stamps coming out all the way through.
The dark drone from Brett's previous vocal years seemed to have turned more into melodious drifts. I admit that his voice still has a bit of an irritating sound to me, but it works so much better with this kind of music. This is quite a catchy pop tune with nice lyrics - "We are the lovers. We're different colours, but we stand up as one." A positive message is always a great thing. Cutesy lyrics, bendy guitar, keyboard effects, backing oohs and aahhs with steady drums and bass makes this song a sure summertime barbecue winner.
