| Millionaire are a four piece band from Belgium who seem to be creating waves within the music industry. Millionaire have even been getting high acclaim from high flying musicians like Matt Bellamy from Muse who has quoted Millionaire’s music as “like disco future rock weird stuff.” Intrigued? Well I am.
First track of Millionaire’s first single release is the title track ‘We Don’t Live There Anymore’ which starts off with heavy, grungy, deep down and dirty guitars and low futuristic gut-wrenching vocals which growl and bite into you. This mixes in with funky, echo-y, and at times just as Matt Bellamy says ‘disco’ vocals that go so well with the music. It takes you down to a depth that’s almost too deep but it keeps you wanting more. It’s strangely satisfying and definitely a great track to catapult their new album ‘Paradisiac’ which is released in September into a cool and high plain, in the music sense anyway.
The second and final track is ‘For A Maid’. This track still has the dirtiness to it but you can see why it is the ‘B’ side. It’s not as catchy, listenable or as individual as ‘We Don’t Live There Anymore.’ It has more of a dance-y feel to it, but don’t get me wrong it still has that rawness. The vocals are clearer on this track and you feel you should be constantly grooving. Drums and guitars feature heavily and the vocals really do something to bring all of this together. It’s one of those tracks you know is going to grow on you with every listen.
Listening to these two tracks, can one person make a guaranteed call on whether Millionaire are a band who will be catapulted into the big leagues? Not really. What these two tracks do though is make the listener want more. That’s what happened with me anyway. It makes the listener think about what other tracks the band is going to offer up on their new album. If these two tracks are anything to go by then they should definitely come up trumps. Keep your eyes open for these guys. They have the promise to go far.
